Making changes to a Rental Property - what you need to know!

So you have a favourite piece of art to hang on a wall or perhaps you have a 3 year old Houdini who likes to make an escape on the regular so you need to install some safety measures. While considered minor in nature, you still need to obtain written consent from your landlord to make these (and any other) changes to a rental property. It will also be up to you, as the tenant, to pay for these changes, unless your landlord agrees otherwise.


The Department of Fair Trading has put together a list of what are considered "minor" changes. But, like is stated on this list, that even if the change is included in this list, tenants must still get the landlord's written permission:
